A wave of American and Israeli strikes has reportedly killed scores of Iranians, including top political, military, and intelligence figures. Iranian state media and international outlets have confirmed several high-profile deaths, while others remain unverified.

Here’s what we know so far.

✅ Confirmed Killed

Ali Khamenei

Iran’s supreme leader since 1989, Khamenei was confirmed dead by state television. The 86-year-old cleric had long been the country’s highest political and religious authority.
State media also reported that several of his family members — including his daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter — were killed in the strikes.

Mohammad Pakpour

Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Pakpour had taken the role in June after his predecessor was killed during earlier clashes. He was one of the most powerful military figures in the country.

Ali Shamkhani

Secretary of Iran’s defence council and a close adviser to Khamenei, Shamkhani had been overseeing nuclear negotiations with the United States. He had previously survived an Israeli strike in June but was killed in the latest attack.

Aziz Nasirzadeh

Iran’s defence minister since mid-2024, Nasirzadeh previously served as air force commander and deputy chief of staff of the armed forces. He was reportedly killed in Tehran.

Abdolrahim Mousavi

Chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, Mousavi had replaced Mohammad Bagheri after Bagheri’s death in earlier strikes.

⚠️ Reported Killed — Not Independently Confirmed

Israeli officials claim that additional senior figures were killed during coordinated strikes on a leadership compound in Tehran. Iranian media has not confirmed these reports.

Among those reported or suspected killed:

  • Mojtaba Khamenei — Son of the slain supreme leader and considered a potential successor.
  • Esmail Qaani — Head of the IRGC’s elite Quds Force.
  • Majid Mousavi — Oversees ballistic missile operations.
  • Saleh Asadi — Senior intelligence official.
  • Mohammad Shirazi — Head of the supreme leader’s military bureau.
  • Hossein Jabal Amelian — Research and development chief within the defence ministry.
  • Reza Mozaffari-Nia — Former R&D head.

US intelligence sources cited by American media claim around 40 senior officials may have been killed in total, though these numbers remain unverified.

🟢 Reported Safe

Iranian authorities say the following officials remain alive despite reportedly being targeted:

  • Masoud Pezeshkian — President of Iran
  • Ali Larijani — Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council
  • Abbas Araghchi — Foreign Minister
  • Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei — Head of the judiciary
  • Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf — Parliamentary speaker

State media reported that following Khamenei’s death, temporary leadership would transfer to a three-member council comprising Pezeshkian, Mohseni-Ejei, and Guardian Council jurist Alireza Arafi.

What This Means

If confirmed in full, the strikes represent one of the most significant decapitation operations against Iran’s leadership in modern history. The deaths of top IRGC commanders and senior political advisers could dramatically reshape Iran’s internal power structure and regional posture.

However, several claims remain contested, and independent verification is limited.

As the situation evolves, confirmation from multiple sources will be critical in determining the true scale of the losses and the political consequences that follow.
