Understanding Artificial Intelligence

What is AI? Everyone must have heard this term. It is the most common term among both tech specialists and common people.

AI (Artificial Intelligence) refers to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks according to the human demand. Again according to many experts it is the simulation of human intelligence in machines.

It enables computers and systems to mimic functions including learning, problem-solving, decision-making, understanding language and even creativity. It can do every work given by human in its own limit. So, we can say that, it needs human help to fulfill its duty or any work it can do.

AI: Blessing or Curse?

Many people may be thinking is it blessing or curse? According to experts, it can be both beneficial and harmful. For some people it is very favourable and beneficial. Again it can also be unfavourable for some people.

There are many benefits of AI. Because of it, the workforce of factories or companies have reduced greatly. As a result, many industries are shifting their workforce by AI. Many experts predicted this.

Dr. Schmidt (former CEO of Google) portends that within one year, AI will take over most programming work. It can write, debug and optimize code better than most humans when it comes to routine or complex but repetitive tasks.

According to Schmidt, AI models can do well in mathematical contention because math is a language of simple structure. Using tools like Leon theorem proving, many complex mathematical problems can be solved by AI.

According to Kai-Fu Lee (Venture Capitalist), within 2027, 50% of jobs would be taken by AI.

Economic Impacts of AI

But Goldman Sachs said both positive and negative news. Goldman Sachs predicts that 300 million jobs worldwide might be lost or degraded due to AI.

The most affected regions would be the U.S. and Europe. Especially those industries relying on repetitive, structured tasks.

In spite of this, Sachs also forecasted that global GDP would be increased 7% by the use of AI which will create job opportunities and fields.

But it is not all true. Many tech companies and various other industries are facing backlash because of AI.

Klarna, a Swedish company tried to do 700 customer service jobs by using AI in 2022. But, because of this move, it led to service quality issues, customer complaints and public backlash. So in 2025, Klarna rehired human staff, acknowledging that empathy and understanding cannot be automated.

Another company made the same mistake as Klarna. Air Canada used AI in their company. As a result, a chatbot falsely promised a refund to a passenger in spite of company policy not allowing it. The passenger won in court and had to pay compensation. Eventually the brand suffered reputational damage as customers lost confidence in its automation strategy.

The Future of Jobs and AI

Then what can we do in this situation? Being jobless and starving to death?

Maybe or not. It depends on what kind of jobs or business one will do.

According to the World Economic Forum, within 2027, AI might cause 83 million jobs lost and create opportunities for 69 million jobs. It means, AI will take some jobs but also will create many jobs.

Now, come to the point, what kind of jobs will it create?

Skills and Opportunities in the AI Era

According to AI researchers, by 2030, new skills will be needed to remain employed. As AI systems continue to upgrade, to stay competitive in this sector companies must invest in training programs. Moreover, AI has the power of thinking but not as much as humans. Besides, in order to control AI one needs skilled workers. Because human has creativity which is hard to find in AI.

Despite its concern, AI would lead to long-term economic gains. Experts believe that it will boost the global economy by 7%. So, it doesn’t matter whether it will take jobs or not rather matter how much one develops their own skills. Because to get effective results by using AI we need skilled human workers who will control AI with creativity.
