For a long time, buying an electric vehicle meant buying a Tesla. It was the default choice fast, futuristic, and supported by the best charging network in the world. But times have changed, and now, Tesla’s once unbeatable dominance is starting to slip.

With its Supercharger network now open to other carmakers and competitors catching up fast on tech, design, and range, the EV market has become more exciting and more competitive than ever.

The End of Tesla’s Charging Advantage

Tesla’s biggest edge used to be its Supercharger network. This was a game-changer for drivers, making long trips easy and stress-free thanks to fast, reliable chargers that worked seamlessly with the Tesla app.

But now that Superchargers are available to brands like Ford, Hyundai, and Kia, Tesla no longer owns that space. With the rise of apps like Chargeway helping drivers easily plan routes and find chargers no matter the plug type the playing field is finally level.

Lucid Air: The Model S, Evolved

The Lucid Air is what many thought the Tesla Model S would grow into: a luxury EV with cutting-edge design, serious range, and mind-blowing performance. Built by ex-Tesla engineers, Lucid’s flagship sedan doesn’t just match Tesla it refines it.

From cabin quality to driving feel, the Lucid Air is a premium EV in every sense. And with Supercharger access coming soon, it checks off all the boxes for high-end electric driving.

Hyundai IONIQ 6: A Sleek Challenger to Model 3

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 brings elegance and range to the electric sedan market, with up to 338 miles on a single charge and ultra-fast 350 kW charging. Thanks to NACS adapter support, it can now use Tesla’s Superchargers too.

Although it hasn’t sold as well in the U.S. as the IONIQ 5, that’s more about American SUV obsession than anything lacking in the car itself. Hyundai is also offering great financing deals right now, making the IONIQ 6 even more appealing to budget-conscious buyers looking for a stylish and capable EV.

Volvo EX90: The Better Model X

If you liked the idea of the Tesla Model X but weren’t a fan of its awkward falcon-wing doors or inconsistent build quality, the Volvo EX90 should be at the top of your list.

This three-row SUV offers 310 miles of range, nearly 510 horsepower, and a luxury interior that feels calm, spacious, and safe everything we’ve come to expect from Volvo. With its elegant Scandinavian design and no-nonsense functionality, the EX90 proves you don’t need gimmicks to make an impact.

Kia EV6: Speed Meets Style

When it comes to EVs that bring fun to the road, the Kia EV6 GT is hard to beat. It has supercar-like acceleration, stylish design, and now, Supercharger compatibility.

From racing Lamborghinis to offering generous cash-back deals up to $10,000 on some 2024 models, the EV6 is fast becoming a favorite among drivers who want excitement without the Tesla nameplate.

Cybertruck? Maybe Just Skip It

Once hyped as Tesla’s ultimate utility vehicle, the Cybertruck has become one of the most polarizing cars on the road. It’s not truly rugged, struggles with towing, and feels more like a political statement than a reliable truck.

If you’re looking for something better suited to real-world work and adventure, the Rivian R1T or GMC Hummer EV are more well-rounded alternatives. And honestly, if the Cybertruck feels like your last hope for happiness maybe it’s not a truck you need. Maybe it’s just therapy.

A New Era of Electric Driving

Tesla changed the world by making electric cars cool, fast, and accessible. But in 2025, it’s no longer the only company that can offer those things. With more EVs than ever supporting Supercharger access, delivering thrilling performance, and raising the bar for build quality, buyers finally have real options.

So while Tesla still matters, it’s no longer the only answer. Whether you’re looking for speed, space, style, or value, there’s an electric vehicle out there that can give you all that without the drama.
