At Diplotic, our mission is to promote truth, transparency, and responsible journalism by verifying claims that shape public discourse. Our fact-checking process is designed to be rigorous, evidence-based, and impartial.
1. Finding a Claim to Fact-Check
Diplotic’s fact-checkers continuously monitor digital spaces including social media platforms, news websites, television channels, and public statements made by influential figures such as political leaders, activists, and public officials.
We prioritize claims that are:
- Viral or widely shared across platforms.
- Potentially harmful or misleading to individuals, groups, or communities.
- Made by verified or influential sources, where misinformation can spread quickly.
- Provocative or divisive in nature, especially those that may incite misunderstanding or conflict.
Our goal is to verify claims that have significant public impact and ensure the audience receives accurate and context-based information.
2. Tools and Verification Process
Diplotic uses a combination of open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools and traditional journalistic methods for verification. These include:
- Reverse Image Search (Google, Yandex, TinEye) to verify manipulated or misleading images.
- Video and Metadata Analysis Tools to identify altered or decontextualized footage.
- Search Engine Filters to verify the origin, date, and context of information.
- Official Sources and Documents, such as statements from government agencies, verified organizations, or reputable databases.
- Expert Consultation, where we engage with subject-matter specialists for context and interpretation.
Whenever possible, we contact individuals or organizations directly to seek clarification or evidence regarding their claims.
3. Writing the Fact-Check Report
Diplotic’s fact-checking articles are written with clarity, neutrality, and transparency. Each report includes:
- A clear statement of the claim being examined.
- Evidence-based analysis explaining the verification process.
- Supporting visuals, screenshots, and credible references for transparency.
- A final verdict (e.g., True, False, Misleading, Partly True) based on the evidence collected.
We ensure every article is easy to understand, visually supported, and accessible to readers from all backgrounds.
4. Keeping the Articles Up to Date
Information is dynamic, and new evidence may emerge over time. Diplotic maintains a commitment to updating previously published fact-checks when new, verified information becomes available.
Updated articles are clearly marked with “Update” or “Correction” notes to ensure readers are always informed with the most recent and accurate version of the facts.
